Crochet Course for Absolute Beginners | Materials, Slip Knot, how to Hold the Yarn, Chain Stitch Crochet | (step by step)

Welcome to your crochet class one.

In this class, we will learn four things to start your crochet journey -

First: - Materials needed for Crochet

Second: - How to Make a Slip Knot?

Third: - How to Hold The Yarn?

Fourth: - How to Crochet Chain Stitch?

Materials needed for Crochet

I recommend, medium size 4, 100% acrylic yarn to use, if you are an absolute beginner in crochet.

Prefer to use the crochet hook, with the number written on the yarn label. I am using a 4 mm crochet hook for now. Always remember, size of the crochet hook makes difference in the size of the project.

Use a Yarn Needle; if you have - its good.

Also Scissors.

Watch Here the Video Tutorial:

How to Make a Slip Knot?

Now grab your yarn and hook — we’re about to make your very first knot.

Choose light colors like white, beige, or pastel shades for yarn. It’s best to see your stitches clearly and easy to handle.

Every crochet project starts with a slip knot. This is the knot that goes on your hook.

Here’s how to make it:

Hold the yarn tail in your hand. Make a loop like this. place the working yarn under the loop. and. Pull the yarn through the loop.

Tighten gently… and that’s it. You just made your first crochet knot.

Insert your hook into the loop. Your hook should move easily inside the loop — not too tight, not too loose.

pull the both yarn to make the slip knot in working condition.

I will repeat the whole process for you again. You also make the slip knot along with me. It will give you clarity and practice both.

Make a loop. Place the working yarn under the loop. Pull the working yarn through the loop.

That's it. A Slip Knot.

Take your time and adjust the yarn tension.

Now, it's ready to crochet.

How to Hold The Yarn?

Now, we will learn, how to hold the yarn?

I like to hold the yarn like this - first, wrap the working yarn on the little finger. then, just hold the yarn, on the pointer finger.

Now, just catch the yarn tail with these three fingers, beneath the slip knot.

Again, I will repeat this for you.

How to Crochet Chain Stitch?

Now, we are ready to make our first chain stitch. The chain stitch is the foundation of almost every crochet project. Scarves, beanies, blankets, bags — everything starts here.

Here’s how to make a chain stitch: -

Hold your crochet hook like you are holding a knife. Or, Hold your hook like a pencil. Whatever, you prefer.

Wrap the yarn over the hook from back to front.

Pull the yarn through the loop on your hook.

That’s one chain stitch.

Let’s repeat it together.

Yarn over… pull through.

Adjust the yarn tension with the pointer finger. Yarn over… pull through.

Keep going slowly.

If your loop is loose on the hook, adjust accordingly.

Also, do not make it too tight. The magic is only on your fingers.

You’ll see a little braid forming — that’s your chain.

If your chain looks wavy or uneven, that’s completely normal. Every beginner starts exactly here.

Try making 15 to 20 chain stitches right now.

You are officially crocheting.

If your stitches feel messy… good. That means you’re learning. Crochet is a skill your hands build with practice.

In just a few days, this will feel natural. And soon… you’ll be making real projects.
